So you know how that feels when your golden retriever FINALLY finds “the” spot to crash on YOUR cream linen sofa? Yeah. Mine too.
I spent months trying to get my dog off my furniture. She would sniff at her own soft, fluffy bed and then walk away to plant herself right back down on my throw pillows.
And the beds that did work? They looked like they belonged in a vet’s office, not a Pinterest board. Nothing matched my living room. Nothing felt intentional.
That’s a fact that nobody talks about, but you shouldn’t have to choose between a bed that your dog actually uses and one that doesn’t make your whole place look terrible.
I rounded up 11 of the cutest wooden dog beds that are just gorgeous AND built to last for my very enthusiastic and drooly golden retriever. Your home will stay cute and your dog will stay cozy. What could be better?
#1: Oval Bolster Dog Bed — The Cozy Nest Your Golden Retriever Will Claim as Her Throne
You know that moment when your golden flops onto the couch again, wet paws, hair everywhere, you’re just standing there holding a throw pillow like it’s going to save you?
This oval bolster bed is the perfect answer to that chaos.
The exterior is a chocolate brown and the interior is a cream sherpa material. This will feel like a hug your dog never wants to leave. The raised walls will give her something to rest her chin on – all golden retrievers love to rest their chin on something.
If you want to try, you should have a bed with faux suede outer shell and a plush fleece or sherpa lining. With the oval shape, this bed doesn’t take up the whole space in your living room. You also can choose a neutral jute rug underneath to ground the bed.
The bed size should be a 30-36 inch oval for most golden retrievers. Since the bolster is removable and washable, muddy paw days won’t ruin the bed.

#2: Braided Dog Beds That Look Like Home Decor (Because They Are)
You know that moment when your golden plops down on her ratty old dog bed right in the middle of your living room, and you’re like… why does this have to be such an eyesore?
I know these chunky hand-braided dog beds were just what I didn’t know I needed! Coming stacked in three sizes – a large taupe, a medium mustard yellow, and a small charcoal grey – each dog bed is made from soft velvet-like fabric tubes, stuffed and braided into a coiled nest shape.
The colour of the braided beds is super neutral and harmonious, so you can leave them near a clean light-painted wall… no clutter around! The beds are the statement!
The braided wall of the pen keeps the dogs contained without the dogs being able to climb the pen or dig underneath, as there are no hard edges to the pen. The deep coiled rim also gives the dog a “burrowed in” feeling which helps to keep the dogs settled.
If your girl likes to dig and nest before settling this is the style of bed she needs. And for even more cozy fun, 7 Cozy DIY Dog Beds for Large Dogs is also a great idea.
One level bigger than you think you need because Golden Retrievers love to sprawl.

#3: The Boucle Sofa Dog Bed That Looks Like It Belongs in a Design Magazine
Chances are, your Golden has a “spot” on her right now. And her spot just might be on your sofa cushion. The one with the permanent indent and faint wet-dog smell that you have stopped noticing.
I love that look from @furniture123uk . I mean, who doesn’t give their dog some actual furniture?! The bed has a solid oak frame with fluted column armrests and a boucle fabric cushion in an off-white colour. It looks great on the other side of this curved oak desk as if it’s in an interior shoot.
I found a wooden dog bed frame in natural oak with ribbed columns on the arms. The fluting adds texture without being bulky. It went perfectly with the removable boucle insert cushion (cream or ivory tones work well against warm wood). The desk in the background is a raw edge oak piece. I love that black pendant lamp hanging in the background!
Boucle Fabric Very similar to velvet but with less hair which is easier to brush off (so you wont get crazy on your dog’s shedding days). Also Boucle is one level bigger than you think it needs to be, your dog might curl up in it but also might sprawl so i would go with a medium to large frame (around 90cm wide).
Keep the bed away from sockets. Tuck the cord behind the bed as they’ve done in this picture, so that it isn’t hanging over the edge of the bed.

#4: The Rattan Pet Sofa That Makes Your Living Room Look Like a Pinterest Board
Your golden retriever has claimed the couch again. You’ve got drool on the armrest, fur in the cushion seams, and guests are coming over in an hour.
A couch to call your own, a space to call your own – it might be time. This gray kubu rattan pet sofa sits low on a beige loop-pile carpet between a French door and a warm cherry wood side table, where you have your dog curled up in his own throne.
this rattan frame comes in a weathered gray finish with a scalloped high back and rolled arms for that real furniture touch! The tan canvas bolster cushion is for your pup to sit on.
If you’re the proud parent of a small dog, this would be a particularly great desk for your furry friend. The low sofa style frame makes it easy to get in and out of, eliminating the need for your dog to jump down. We like this one at our front door where it gets plenty of natural light in the form of the big window behind it. The rattan color looks warm in the sunlight, and with the backlighting it just looks stunning in photos.
And ditch the stock cushion for a cover in a performance linen, which is neutral enough to be used with more decor styles and wipes clean in seconds. That way, your dog stays cozy, and your room stays pretty, and cleanup takes zero effort.

#5: The Corner Dog Bed That Makes Your Living Room Look Intentional
She likes to sit right in the middle of the floor so that everyone has to watch where they are going. I have moved her bed 3 times and she doesn’t even acknowledge it.
I really like that this corner dog bed by Snoozer Pets fits into any 90-degree corner. It disappears into the room rather than dominating it. I also like that the gray quilted micro-velvet fabric is plush to my pup’s fur and feels like actual furniture. I have a lot of sofas.
I recreated this setting using the Snoozer Luxury Corner Pet Bed in sage gray, warm honey-toned hardwood flooring, and a black metal shelving unit as the backdrop. I just love the contrast. // Decor8.
The bolstered side walls support your dog’s neck, giving her joints a break so she can sleep longer and deeper, which means fewer wake ups to poke you.
Always try the dog in the appropriate size (medium for dogs up to 15 lbs, large for dogs over 15 lbs). The large is better because it gives your dog room to move around.

#6: The Bela Pal Orthopedic Dog Bed That Actually Looks Good in Your Living Room
Your golden is sprawled across your couch again and you’re torn between letting her stay and protecting your throw pillows. Again.
This bed from Bela Pal is giving couch-but-make-it-hers energy. The slate blue velvet bolster hugs three sides of the bed, the cream sherpa sleeping surface could easily have come off a Pinterest board and the cut-away on the side shows exactly what’s underneath it – a wave-cut orthopedic foam layer with an anti-slip base, which moulds to her body, instead of simply sitting underneath it.
The pillows and extra blankets on the bed are just for style. To recreate this space, start with a Bela Pal orthopedic dog bed in the large or extra-large size for a golden. Put it on top of a chunky ivory area rug. Then place it near a window with sheer white curtains. Dogs love the light, and you’ll love the photos.
Keep this in mind: The egg-crate foam distributes her weight across pressure points so she’s not stiff when she wakes up, which results in way fewer sad puppy eyes in the morning.
If you’re in between sizes, we suggest going up in size. Goldens tend to be “stretchier” than other breeds and want to have the full length of their leashes to play with.

#7: The Scruffs Striped Dog Bed That Looks Like It Belongs in a Pinterest Home
You’re golden plops down on your couch again, and you’re just standing there with a lint roller in your hands like it’s a weapon. girl, i’ve been there.
The Scruffs striped box bed is giving us an unexpected coastal grandmother meets dog mom kind of energy, and we are not mad about it! With a sage green and white ticking stripe fabric that wraps around a deep, soft bolster frame that hugs your dog from three sides, and a pale seafoam center cushion, it looks intentional and effortless.
To recreate the look, pick up the Scruffs Harbour Box Bed, which comes in a large size that fits dogs up to 90 lbs. Simply tuck it into a corner against two walls as shown to give your dog his own “den” without you having to build anything.
And while we’re on the topic of cleaning… The linen-blend exterior wipes clean with a damp cloth, so no more choosing between a fresh-smelling room and a happy dog. At last, both!
– Change the inner cushion every few weeks to keep it from going flat. – For a chewer, slip on a washable cover for the bolster.

#8: The Faux Fur Lounge Bed That Makes Your Golden Feel Like Royalty
Your golden flops down on their bed and you hear that dramatic thud, which means they’re down for the long haul. Then the slow blink comes as their entire body melts into their bed, and this is the moment this “Best Friends by Sheri” Cub Lounge Bed was made for.
One of these cloud-like beds sits on a store shelf side-by-side with the other. They caught my eye because of the silver-gray faux fur that looked thick and very textured. It’s the kind of fur that your dog’s paws get into before they even curl up in it. Both beds have bolstered walls on three sides.
It’s a warm silver ash color that means that you hardly see any golden retriever fur (or maybe that’s just my dog). I love the plush minky fabric as it is machine washable so muddy paw prints aren’t a problem.
Real talk: If you’re going to buy one, it has to be big enough for your Golden Retriever. Get one that is at least 32 inches long for them to sprawl around and not hang off the end.
If your dog likes to chew on bolsters, stuff the inner walls of the bolster with an old pillow insert to extend the life of the bolster.

#9: The Playing Card Basket Bed – A Storybook Nook Your Dog Will Claim Immediately
This one really made me stop in my tracks. A giant woven seagrass basket. Yup, it’s seriousy deep and round! And lined with a tufted cushion covered in a playing card print. The colors are muted greens, reds and blues. The basket sits on a faded Persian-style wool rug in terracotta and navy. I imagine your golden would love to sink right into this one and never leave!
To get this look, you will need a large round seagrass storage basket (at least 24 inches in diameter) and a custom round floor cushion. I used a quilted, multi-panel design in a novelty print. The playing card print looks like a cotton canvas, which stands up to dog nails better than linen.
The tufted buttons keep the cushion from shifting around inside the basket (which I’m sure matters to you because my dog had one of those plain cushions in a basket for two weeks before it got bunched in one corner).
Cut your cushion slightly wider than the diameter of the inside of your basket. You want to curl the edges a little bit, that way you’ll have a little lip that will make your dog feel “held” instead of just placed.

#10: The Lion’s Den Dog Bed — A Cozy Round Bed Your Dog Will Claim as Their Throne
We have a golden retriever. She knows all the great spots in the house, including that sweet one on the couch. This round bed looks like a cloud she just jumped into.
Now this bed is a very Plush Round BOLSTER BED in a very soft Light Gray fabric. You know the kind of fabric you see on Pinterest and think “it’s so pretty! But I bet the dog ruins it.” Well, you’re wrong. This is a real dog bed and it’s going to withstand everything. The cushioned sides wrap around your dog to hug him/her with soft and squishy love. This dog is in heaven. I don’t even think he’s going to try and move. Or maybe he’s still wrapping his brain around the fact that he’s a Lion. Omg those whiskers. This is why you have to do Halloween as a dog. Completely optional but iconic.
You will need: a round bolster dog bed in a neutral gray or cream tone. I found this bed here at [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005B8DBY0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1] on Amazon. This is the perfect size for my medium sized dog but you will want to get a bed that is between 28 to 36 inches. The fabric is either a microfiber or a velvet blend, so this bed is both beautiful and easy to wipe down.
If you have space in a corner of your living room or on a window sill, that would be perfect. Bolster walls aren’t just cute- they give your dog something to lean against, which means that your dog might sleep better and you won’t have to listen to the crazy zoomies your dog does at night.
Add a washable insert liner underneath the cushion to keep the base from shifting. It makes laundry day a breeze.

#11: The Cozy Dog Bed Setup That Makes Your Living Room Look Intentional
You know the feeling when your golden retriever decides that the best place to sleep is on the floor even though her bed is only two feet away? Yeah. This set up fixes that because the bed actually fits into the space.
It’s giving me warm farmhouse vibes and I’m not even trying. Dark-stained hardwood floors, a crisp white wall and that pop of red from the Windsor chair. The dog is already in the bed.
today’s pretty star is an oval bolster dog bed in grey corduroy fabric with a sherpa-fleece inner lining. the bolster part comes in handy for chin resting, so she’s using it for that. i paired it with a vintage red Windsor chair and white walls. .
First, a 36-inch oval is a good size for a mid-to-large dog. And tuck it at the base of a wall. Enclosed dog beds make dogs feel safe, so they’ll actually use it.
I suggest washing the sherpa insert every 2 weeks or so. The oils from my dogs coat build up quickly and the bed starts to smell before I realize it.

The One Wooden Bed Mistake That’ll Cost You (And How to Skip It)
Most people buy a wooden dog bed and slap a mattress pad on it immediately, then use the bed with no liner in between. Big mistake. Since wood is untreated, it will absorb the moisture from your dog’s body heat, and this trapped dampness is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and will give off that weird wet dog smell that never seems to wash out.
My cousin did this to her lab mix. Six months later the whole frame has a little mildew situation going on. Terrible.
The fix is so simple, it is almost annoying. Just make sure that the inside of the treat is sealed with mineral oil or beeswax before your dog gets a hold of it. One coat is sufficient. Let it cure for 24 hours.
And every three months you should check the leg hardware. The wooden frame can shift and wobble a little, and the metal screws will strip out faster than you think with a big, heavy golden retriever flopping around on them.
Golden Retrievers have a tendency to destroy furniture. So it is important to treat the wood before your puppy gets on it so it will last for years.
Your Golden Deserves a Clean Home Too
“Me too!” you’re probably thinking. I mean, if you have good taste (and I know you do because your house is fabulous) then mud tracks, golden fur, and that ever so pleasant taste of dog drool are probably not the first things you want to bring home to your Pinterest-perfect living room. But you deserve both – a beautiful space and a dog you’re obsessed with.
I’ve used several products on my tile floors including Granite Gold. Why not try one of the products listed below? I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the difference that just one week can make.
Your home can look good & and survive golden retriever ownership – those two things aren’t fighting each other anymore. Tell me what’s the one spot in your home that your dog has completely taken over, and are you finally ready to take it back?
