Blind and Deaf Senior Pug Finds a Loving Home After Being Abandoned

A 15-year-old Pug, blind, deaf, and deeply neglected, was discovered abandoned in a box at a Walmart parking lot. The former owner now faces three months in jail.

The Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals came to the rescue of this Pug, found near a donation bin. She suffered from a double ear infection, rotting teeth, and one eye on the brink of rupture, as reported by Fox8.

Rita Swartz, 52, the owner, claims she attempted to contact shelters for assistance but received no help. In contrast, the SPCA states they were never approached.

Charged with a second-degree misdemeanor for the abandonment of animals, Swartz could face up to 90 days in jail and a hefty $750 fine.

The Pug, named Agnes, has received treatment for some injuries at the SPCA but still needs surgery for her eye and teeth. Due to concerns about her surviving the procedures, she has been placed with a loving foster family for comfort in her remaining days.

Ultimately, that foster family adopted Agnes. “She now has her own safe space at home where she navigates without tripping or bumping into things,” the Medina County SPCA shared on Facebook. “She requires daily meds and attentive care, so we’re thrilled she’s in such a wonderful environment!”

As for Swartz, she is set to appear before a judge on January 30.
