One Year After Surviving Severe Burns, Riona Finds Her Forever Home

A loving dog named Riona has bravely overcome tragic abuse from her previous owner and is eager to embrace her new, caring family.

Nearly a year ago, she faced unimaginable horror when she was soaked in gasoline and ignited, later discovered fleeing through Memphis. Taken in by Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, her healing journey began at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists.

Riona underwent numerous surgeries and spent months in rehabilitation. The rescue shared that “60% of her body suffered from 4th degree burns. She required months of constant care, multiple daily bandage changes, extensive pain management, antibiotics, and surgeries to close her wounds, alongside skin expanders to facilitate grafts.”

One of the technicians, Mallory Ward, fostered Riona and aided her recovery. Remarkably, throughout her hardships, Riona maintained her cheerful disposition and love for people.

Her touching story gained traction on social media, prompting numerous offers for her care and eventual adoption. The rescue noted, “Choosing a family for her was incredibly challenging, with so many heartfelt applications! We finally made a decision, and while it’s about an 8-hour journey, we are thrilled for her future!”

The day was filled with joy, yet tears flowed as Mallory and her medical team bid farewell to Riona. Mallory expressed, “The sweetest angel princess I could ever wish for! It’s a bittersweet moment sending her off to her forever home, but I am immensely grateful for how her story has unfolded.”
