Sometimes it takes just one act of kindness to warm your heart, even on the coldest of days. That’s just what happened when Officer J. Williams stopped by the Parsippany Animal Control and Shelter. He had no idea he was going to meet a new furry friend.
A Chilly Discovery No One Expected
One day last week, while he was making his regular check of the property, Officer Williams came across something that made him stop. There was a medium-sized Pit Bull tied to the fence with a red leash, all by himself, out in the cold. The person who abandoned him had been kind enough to leave him a toy and a bag of food, as well as two bowls. But you can’t do much with kindness in the cold.
He was left between 9:00 and 10:00 and it was already awful out. It was down to 23 degrees Fahrenheit (-5 Celsius) and the wind chill was probably 7 degrees. The water in one of his bowls was even frozen. That poor dog must have been shivering down to his paws.
One Officer’s Simple Act of Compassion
Officer Williams didn’t hesitate at all. He picked up the little boy and took him into his warm patrol car and waited for a Parsippany Animal Control Officer to arrive. What did that grateful Pit Bull do the moment he felt the warmth? He gave Officer Williams a big thank-you kiss right then and there.
I can’t stop smiling just looking at this picture. A tough cop and shivering pitbull in the front seat of a police car. Officer Williams was no exception, he had to take a selfie to remember the moment. How could you not?
Safe, Sound, and Looking for a Home

The Happiest Ending Possible
Here’s the update that will make your whole day brighter. The Parsippany Police Department shared the wonderful news that this little guy found his forever home — and it came from right within the police family.
Morris Plains Police Officer N. Grawehr, the very officer who saved him, stepped up and opened his heart and his home. The department announced it this way: “We are very happy to announce that the Pitbull that was tied to the fence and left out in the cold was adopted today and is currently relaxing in his furever home. Morris Plains Police Officer N. Grawehr, who is friends with Patrol Officer J. Williams who rescued the dog, took his canine friend home late this afternoon.”
From frozen fence post to warm, loving home – these are the stories that make us love dogs even more. They give us everything they have, even when the world has been cold to them. All they ask in return is a home and someone to love them.
