Often times when attempting to paint our canine friends, we tend to get the depth of the eyes wrong. Always block out your darks first. If you rush straight into the highlights you will lose that warmth you feel whenever your dog greets you.
I learned this the hard way on my third canvas. It looked so flat and lifeless.
If you are painting a custom paint by number kit, just thin your acrylics a tiny bit. You want just enough to be able to brush, but not so much that you cover up your texture. You want your brush strokes to look soft and furry, not plastered on the wall. Take your time blending the edges where your pup’s muzzle meets their chest.
