14 Dog Supplies That Look Good Enough to Leave Out in the Open

  • Save

Your dog just came in from outside and drags muddy paws all over your white rug. Again.

And he’s so proud of himself while you are standing there with a paper towel trying to figure out why your house smells like wet dog and broken dreams.

Girl, I know how you feel. Once my cousin’s lab mix chewed through my $60 throw pillow from my living room refresh. I cried a little.

Now I don’t mean to suggest that you’re so obsessed with your dog that you’re willing to give up your entire aesthetic to make room for her. You worked hard to find the right Pinterest worthy look for your place, after all. The soft textures, neutral tones, and vibe.

Good news: You don’t have to choose between a beautiful home and your best fur boy.

These 14 dog supplies are the answer — pieces that do double duty, keeping your space gorgeous and your pup happy.

#1: These Handmade Ceramic Dog Bowls Will Make Your Golden’s Mealtime Actually Cute

  • Save

Your golden drops a toy at your feet and your tail starts wagging like crazy. You look over at the stainless steel plain bowl you have on the floor and it slides across the kitchen. Yeah, we’ve all been there.

These cute hand-sculpted ceramic dog bowls are different! Each bowl is wheel-thrown and hand-painted with a different dog face! The bowls all have floppy tongues, pointy ears and little painted paws sticking out from the bottom. These adorable bowls are made of glazed white stoneware and are dishwasher safe. We think these low, wide bowls would be perfect for a golden’s snout!

Store them on a shelf when not in use (they nest together and look great)! The one laid flat, the one with the sculpted paw feet is great as a treat dish or water bowl for a small dog.

The heavier ceramic base keeps the bowl from sliding while I am eating, so less spills and less frustration, plus the floor stays drier longer.

Go for three or four (different ones than I mentioned above) – try the sleepy face, the tongue out face, the perky ear face… for a playful little collection on your kitchen counter.

#2: The GPS Smart Collar That Actually Keeps Up With Your Dog

  • Save

You know the feeling, as you shoot your golden bolts toward the tree line, and your heart just stops?

What better moment than a weekend away to slip your dog into this orange silicone GPS tracking collar? The slim oval-shaped tracker module sits flush against your dog’s neck, so there’s no bulky box to dangle around and snag on bushes. It’s low-profile enough that it doesn’t bug your dog, but bright enough that you can spot your pup from across the field.

The collar is made of waterproof silicone, and is a bold safety orange to easily see in case of a water accident or a mud run. The tracker easily slides into a molded slot to keep it from moving around.

And here’s what I love most: The real-time GPS syncs with your phone so you are not guessing, you know.

Worth it because: waterproof material keeps the tracker safe during swims. no need to replace a soaked-out unit every season.

Measure the length of your dog’s neck and add two fingers of breathing room. Most of these will fit a neck that is between 12″ to 24″ comfortably.

#3: The Cream-Colored Water Bottle That Keeps Your Dog Hydrated (And Your Aesthetic Intact)

  • Save

Or maybe you know that feeling when you are refilling your dog’s water bowl for the third time before noon and the water already has that weird slobber film on it.

This Takeya Tritan 32 oz insulated water bottle in a warm cream finish is the one I keep seeing in every dog mom’s flat lay and it makes sense! The matte cream powder coat stays clean looking even when paw prints are nearby and the ridged screw top lid means no spills in your tote bag on the way to the trail.

The stainless steel interior of the bottle keeps the water inside cold for hours, so Fluffy will actually drink the water on hot days instead of just sniffing it and walking away.

Just flip the lid open and pour it directly into the collapsible silicone bowl. No cup and no mess! No ruined park outfit for me.

Get a matching cream or off-white silicone travel bowl to match with the bowl if you want to stick with the same style and design.

And, if your dog is anything like mine, and tends to freak out about drinking warm water in July, then this bottle can really change your walk routine.

#4: The Purple Bubble Tug Toy That’ll Save Your Couch (and Your Sanity)

  • Save

Your golden goes full chaos mode the second you sit down on the couch, paws on your lap, slobber on your throw pillow. She has a lot of energy, and so do you. She needs something to sink her teeth into, and so do you.

This purple bubble tug toy is made of thick, natural rubber with a bumpy, segmented surface that provides your dog with incredible grip satisfaction. The horseshoe shape makes it easy to play a good game of tug-of-war with your dog – you hold one end while she pulls the other and your sofa stays drool-free.

I like the lavender to purple gradient enough to not bother picking it up off the floor, and the bobbled surface could actually double as a gum massager and make fewer vet trips for dental issues down the road.

Grab one in medium or large size. The smaller ones will snap way too quickly for your golden.

The best part: the rubber compound is non-toxic and odor resistant, so it won’t stink up your entryway after outdoor play sessions.

#5: The Cutest Poop Bag Holder You’ll Actually Want to Carry

  • Save

You know that moment when you’re walking your dog, your golden starts going nuts for a squirrel and you’re digging in your pocket for one bag? That’s over.

This is the best poop bag dispenser I have. It is a mint green, cylindrical pouch that clips to your leash with a black carabiner clip. It dispenses black waste bags from the top opening like a small tissue box. No digging or fumbling.

And I like the texture of the handle, which helps me to grab ahold of it and not have it slip out of my hand. It’s small and fits nicely in the palm of my hand. And the bags pull out clean every time, one handed, even when my dog is in the middle of a disaster.

Keep a full roll of standard-size black compostable bags in your backpack or saddle bag so you’re never caught without some. The carabiner fits leashes of any width.

I load a fresh roll of 4M into the diaper genie every Sunday night so that when I get up in the morning, I just have to slip it into my bag (and I know that I will always have it with me – there is no ‘OMG I left my bag at home’ panic).

#6: The Cutest Dog Carrier Bag That Makes Every Outing Way More Fun

  • Save

There have been plenty of times where I’ve wanted to bring my dog with me, but also wanted to look put-together. Which means, I’ve also tried to dash out the door with a leash wrapped around my wrist and my dog tucked under one arm.

Our love of the red nylon pet carrier tote continues! With a structured body to hold the tote upright on a table, a zip top opening so your dog can peek out and a matching red leather leash with gold hardware. Oh, and this is just a tiny little chef’s kiss to top it off!

The carrier is made of water-resistant nylon with reinforced bottom panels to make sure it doesn’t get destroyed by an overexcited Pomeranian. The mesh zip closure keeps your dog from escaping mid-shopping.

Be sure to look for a carrier with an interior at least 10″ x 7″ so that your dog has room to shift around without feeling cramped.

Even better, this pack comes with a breathable mesh inner lining and a small fleece pad at the bottom so your dog will stay cozy (while keeping the pack clean). If you’re looking for more gear your dog will actually love, check out this piece: 12 Best Dog Gift Ideas: Top Picks for Every Pooch.

I screwed a thin acrylic insert to the bottom of the carrier to keep it flat for the dog to stand on.

#7: The Tactical Dog Collar That Actually Looks Good (BRAK Gear X-Pattern Collar)

  • Save

I’m sure you’ve had a moment when your golden’s collar is so filthy and gross you’re embarrassed to be seen at the dog park. I had this moment last spring and decided to find a way to spruce up my little girls’s collars that didn’t look like a sad afterthought.

This is the BRAK Gear tactical collar. It’s got that “working dog meets streetwear” vibe. The base is made from olive green military-grade nylon webbing and it’s layered with a bold orange X-pattern strap that crosses the front of the collar. The hardware is a matte black quick-release cobra buckle that locks with zero wiggle.

The wide profile is about 2 inches tall, which distributes pressure over a wider area of the dog’s neck. This helps to avoid the strain on the throat of a thin strip.

One thing to remember: measure your dog’s neck BEFORE ordering. This type of collar is structured, not stretchy.

Another use for the orange strap is to help us see it on the trail. The collar easily wipes clean with a damp cloth – no scrubbing required!

Throw it on over your dog’s warm coat (golden retrievers look good as hell in orange) and it’s Insta-worthy without even trying.

#8: The Pumpkin Patch Dog Harness Set That’ll Make Every Fall Walk Ridiculously Cute

  • Save

Picture this: You clip your golden into his harness on a crisp October morning. The leaves crunch under your boots as you head out to work. You glance down at your golden, and he actually looks like he should be on your fall Pinterest board!

Say hello to the Cocopup London Pumpkin Gingham Harness Set! This harness comes with a step-in vest harness in a beige and cream gingham check with a variety of hand-embroidered orange pumpkins scattered throughout. But wait there’s more! The harness also includes a matching rolled lead and a snap-buckle collar and even a fabric bow that can be tied onto the harness!

It has a comfortable, padded, adjustable velcro chest strap and a tan plastic quick-release buckle at the belly (no wrestling your golden into loops on a cold morning).

I am buying the set. The reason for that is that if you buy them from different brands, it will never ever look the same as in the picture. With a set like this, everything is already done for you.

Goldens should be sized correctly so the chest panel of the sweater will lay flat and not bunch in the armpits.

#9: Leather Dog Collar, Harness & Leash Set That Looks Way Too Good to Hide

  • Save

You know, that moment when you’re going out the door and your golden is spinning in circles and you’re just grabbing whatever leash happened to get tangled around the coat rack.

This set is everything I didn’t know I needed. We’re talking a taupe pebbled leather harness, a braided cognac leather leash with a looped handle, and a slim leather collar- all in warm neutrals with silver hardware. The stitching is contrast white which gives it that handcrafted, heirloom look.

The harness is adjustable with a buckle closure at the front and back. Golden retrievers are able to wear it without the bulky padding that is normally found in most harnesses. The braided grip on this leash will not slip if it gets wet.

I chose the leather hardware because it ages nicely with use. So the more you walk your dog, the better it will look!

Store your set coiled up on a linen or cotton dog bed (or even the stacked kind, like the one above) near your entryway. It’ll double as décor and keep your scarves tangle-free.

A monthly conditioning with a beeswax-based leather balm will also help to prevent cracking, especially if your Golden loves to splash.

#10: A Halloween Dog Collar That’s Honestly Too Cute to Be Seasonal

  • Save

Okay, so last October I was on Pinterest late into the night and saw this the cutest Halloween dog collar, and I immediately thought of you and your golden! I love the collar from Tags for Hope!

“Hello, this is a Tigger, Piglet and Pooh as Winnie the Pooh characters in Halloween costumes. Tigger as a tiger, Piglet as a ghost, and Pooh in a pumpkin suit. This design has been printed on dark charcoal grey nylon webbing with little bats and jack-o-lanterns throughout. The colors are burnt orange, cream and black, and somehow it looks festive without being tacky.

The collar has a solid black metal O-ring hardware (not the flimsy plastic that cracks after two washes). Comes with a matching printed ID tag for you to write your dog’s name on.

Real talk: Wide collars like this sit better on fluffier dogs. The wider band width of this design also means the collar will press more evenly, meaning more comfort for your dog on walks and no digging into his fur.

Store flat between seasons to keep the print crisp.

#11: Smith & Goat Concrete Pet Bowl Set — The Dog Bowl That Actually Looks Good in Your Kitchen

  • Save

You know that moment when your guests come over and you are kicking your dog’s plastic bowl under the counter because it clashes with everything? Yeah. Been there.

You can keep these pet bowls on your side table, counter, or you can put them on the floor with the flat concrete tray base. The whole set is finished in a black and white marbled pattern, which you could totally see on a design blog. The bowls sit slightly elevated off the tray to help your big dog golden eat at a more comfortable angle.

This tray is made from hand-cast concrete and features a tie-dye-style ink finish, so no two pieces are alike. The tray helps to keep your food and water confined, so you’re not chasing spilled water over your hardwood floors.

Quick note: It is a bit heavy (which is good, because it stays put – even when your dog is in full chaos mode – when it’s dinner time) so your floors stay dry and you don’t have to reset it 12 times during one meal.

Seal the inside of the bowls with a food-safe concrete sealer before first use. This helps protect the surface, and makes cleaning much easier (just a quick wipe down).

#12: The Bagel & Pickle Dog Toy That’ll Make You Both Smile

  • Save

Your golden is staring at you with those eyes that say, “entertain me or I’m eating the couch cushion” You grab whatever is near and you’re dangling a sock like it’s the greatest prize in the world. Been there.

This is the cutest thing ever. Ok, maybe not ever, but definitely the cutest dog toy I’ve seen in a while. It’s a plush everything bagel! It’s made out of tan fabric with black embroidered sesame seeds, and the inside is a fluffy cream color. There’s a separate green pickle ring in ribbed corduroy-style fabric with little embroidered dots.

My friend Dani got this for her dachshund and texted me a picture last night as if it was breaking news. I get it.

Both toys work as separate toys, so your golden can hide treats in the cream center of the bagel, so he/she has to nose around to get the treat. This will burn up mental energy fast.

Textured fabric keeps him interested in it longer than the smooth plush toys. Also, the pieces are removable so you can give him two toys in one.

Put a tiny bit of peanut butter into the folds of a pickle and you have a 20-minute distraction on a rainy afternoon.

#13: Balloon Dog Keychains — The Cutest Bag Charm for Dog Moms

  • Save

Your golden retriever knocks your bag off the hook (again) and everything spills out. You see your keys, your chapstick, crumpled receipts. Somehow, though, seeing the little balloon dog charm on your keyring makes you laugh instead of sigh.

These resin balloon dog keychains come in every color you’d want — dusty lilac, pearl cream, hot pink, baby blue, burnt orange, even a matte chocolate brown. Each one mimics the classic twisted balloon dog, the silhouette of which was made iconic by Jeff Koons, but tiny enough to clip onto your keys or bag strap.

These clips come in a variety of color-ways, some with the gold-tone swivel clasps, some in matte pink or sky blue metal, and a few of these even have a woven tassel detail in a coordinating color for an extra touch of movement and texture that is anything but over the top.

mix 2 or 3 colors on the same keyring. since they are charms, each clip and unclip independently so you can switch them out depending on mood or outfit.

I love having a few extra pairs stored in a small dish near my front door. I have found that they make a great last-minute gift, especially for the dog mom who has everything.

#14: Dog Raincoats That Actually Stay On (And Look Ridiculously Cute Doing It)

  • Save

Yep, you know that moment when you are standing at the door, pleading for your golden to just come inside and he/she is out there getting absolutely soaked? This is what these coats are for.

Two cockapoos are sitting side by side on the wooden bridge, rocking water-resistant nylon shell jackets (one stone beige, the other sage green) that cinch at the waist, have ruffled hood collars, and zip up the front. The dogs look as though they’re dressed for a weekend in the country, and it’s a look your golden would pull off effortlessly.

Simply clip these coats to your dog’s D-ring harness attachment and the leash will connect as usual. There are sizes ranging from XS to XL and adjustable velcro belly straps so your dog can still move freely.

If you have a golden that is a little on the heavy side and has a deep chest, one thing you will appreciate is the ease of buttoning up the front on a cold morning.

The Dog Supply Mistake That’s Costing You More Than You Think

As a professional dog trainer, I am always amazed how people buy dog supplies based on price only. However, I would like to share with you a pro secret: cheap food bowls are making your golden’s digestion worse.

Also, a shallow, plastic bowl might encourage your larger dog to eat too fast. Eating too fast is one cause of bloat, which is very scary for your breed.

I’m using a stainless steel slow-feeder bowl. It’s night and day.

Most of the dog owners just look at the first five ingredients of the dog food bag. The first ingredient should always be a named protein like “salmon”, not “meat meal”. If you want to know exactly what is going into your dog’s meals, you should check out the homemade salmon dog food recipes.

My golden mix, Maple, had constant stomach issues. But three weeks after I made the switch, she hasn’t had any problems.

The stuff that looks boring on the shelf is almost always the one that actually works.

Your Couch Deserves Better — And So Do You

Even if your golden is not going anywhere, neither is the mud, the fur and the love! But that does not mean you have to have a disaster area every day!

pick one from the list below and just try it. no big deal. my cousin literally did that last spring and sent me a text like “why did i wait so long!” and i felt that.

Your Pinterest board is meant to match your actual living room, not just your dreams.

Which cover are you most likely to buy? See below for a little more info on the covers.
