11 Dog Gadgets That Solve Problems You Didn’t Know You Had

  • Save

Do you ever have one of those mornings where your dog comes barreling through the back door after being out in the rain and suddenly your Pinterest-perfect living room looks like a crime scene? I’ve watched my friend go through this same spiral every single weekend.

Mud on the cream rug. Dog hair all over the pristine, nose-to-tail-to-nose linen sofa. Dog hair floating into the eucalyptus arrangement she had put together an hour ago.

It’s a lot.

And the worst part is that you love your dog more than anything, but you are so tired of always feeling like you are constantly cleaning up after the little adorable tornado.

Of course, there are gadgets that can help alleviate the problem. And I don’t mean in a “maybe this will help” kind of way. I mean in a “wait why didn’t I have this sooner” kind of way.

From the elusively neat little trick to the oddly amusing part on your dog’s face, these picks are sure to change your daily routine with your pup.

#1: The Fi Series 3 GPS Smart Collar — Because Tucker Deserves to Come Home Safe

  • Save

I know the feeling of the heart dropping feeling when your golden bolts towards the open gate and you freeze. Tucker’s owner knows the feeling too and this is the reason she doesn’t panic anymore.

The Fi Series 3 GPS Smart Collar is laid out against Tucker’s curly cream coat in a sleek navy blue. The compact tracker module is built right into the band so the collar doesn’t look bulky or clunky. It actually just looks good. The hexagonal custom name tag (his says “Tucker” of course) hangs from a silver ring and the whole set-up looks pretty enough to make a Pinterest flat lay.

It is made from durable nylon webbing with a secure buckle clasp. The Fi module clips to it without any additional hardware.

Throw in a Fi app on your phone and you get real-time GPS tracking, step counting, and sleep monitoring. The battery lasts up to 3 months on a single charge so one less thing is dying on you.

If your pup likes to sneak out the back door when you take the dogs for a walk around the neighborhood, set up a geofence in the app. The moment your golden crosses the virtual fence, your phone will buzz in your pocket.

#2: Portable Dog Water Bottle with Flip-Out Bowl

  • Save

Hot pavement. A tired golden retriever. And zero water to be found.

Are you walking your dog and half way through your walk you notice that he is panting like crazy? Then you need to read this article.

We are excited to bring you this awesome portable pet water bottle with a built in teal BPA-free silicone bowl that flips out from the bottom. Inside the clear plastic reservoir so you can see how much water is left. To get the water into the bowl, just press the small side button and it flows right in.

My cousin brought hers on a three mile trail walk last summer. Her dog drank twice, no spills and no mess – she just pressed the button and held the bowl steady and the water flowed.

You know what else it does? Wipes clean with one swipe! 2 stars for being a teal color..

Now for the easy part: If you have leftover water in your water bottle just refill it back into the bottle with the second button press. No puddle on the floor when you get home!

If you want a nice cup of coffee, buy the bigger size, such as the 550ml one. I think it’s worth buying a bigger cup if you’re going for a walk.

#3: Nina Ottosson Dog Brick Puzzle Feeder — Because Your Golden Deserves a Mental Workout Too

  • Save

You know that thing where your dog has been fed, walked, had its belly-rubbed for twenty minutes… and it’s still staring at you like you personally wronged it? That’s boredom.

This is the Nina Ottosson Dog Brick Puzzle. I love this product! The base is a solid orange food-safe plastic disc that is roughly 12 inches in diameter and has bone shaped compartments molded right into the surface. Sitting on top of it are seven white ceramic-feel plastic bone tiles. Underneath the tiles are small kibble pockets. You load it with dry kibble or small treats and set the tiles on top.

Well, my cousin’s lab mix took 11 minutes the first time. Eleven minutes.

This design is a Level 2 design which means it is not too easy, but also not rage-quit hard. Great for goldens that inhale their food in 30 seconds.

Fill the two bone-shaped grooves with kibble then tuck in a few extra kibble under the white tiles. We also add a few pieces of a sensitive stomach formula as my girl has a sensitive tummy and this puzzle always makes her eat slowly.

Wash the base regularly in warm, soapy water. Just the tiles need cleaning – they’re wiped clean in seconds.

#4: The Automatic Pet Feeder That Keeps Your Golden’s Schedule (Even When You Can’t)

  • Save

You know that guilt trip your golden gives you at 6pm when dinner is running late? The full-body wiggle, the staring, the dramatic flop onto the kitchen floor? Yeah, that one.

In a nice, clean white-and-black two-tone finish, this automatic pet feeder is the kind that doesn’t scream “pet stuff lives here!” The black BPA-free hopper sits atop a white ABS plastic base, with a removable gray food bowl. The front of the device features a built-in camera panel with buttons on the front for dispensing meals and checking in on your pup.

You set it to release portions on a timer, so that way your cat gets her treats whether you’re stuck in traffic or out for the evening. Having a camera means you’re not just feeding your cat, but you’re also watching her actually eat! If you’ve ever had a picky eater, you’ll understand why that’s everything!

The bowl comes out so you can easily wash it, right? Just run it through the dishwasher on the top rack.

#5: The Blue Raincoat That Actually Keeps Your Dog Dry on Muddy Walks

  • Save

You know the moment when you open the front door after a rainy walk, and your golden just shakes – and suddenly there’s mud on your jeans, the rug, and the wall!

Here is the raincoat to sort out that chaos. It is a royal blue PVC raincoat with a cape style poncho that fastens with white snap buttons along the chest and belly. The hooded collar sits high enough on the neck to keep your dog warm without restricting movement, and he will look ridiculously cute in it.

The coat is made from a lightweight waterproof PVC fabric that repels water and mud before it ever touches the fur, so your dog won’t need as many towel-dryings at the door and you won’t have wet-dog smell on your couch.

Real talk: The snap closure system means you are not trying to wrestle a zipper over a squirming dog at 7 am.

If your dog has a thick chest, you should consider getting him or her a cape cut. The cape cut adds extra fur on the back and sides, where mud loves to splatter.

#6: Fi Series 3 GPS Dog Collar — Know Where Your Dog Is, Always

  • Save

You threw a few golden bolts in the tree line, and your stomach drops. You are scanning the yard, calling her name, and the panic has already begun.

The Fi Series 3 GPS Smart Collar fixes this and it clips onto the yellow nylon band (which can be in other colors). It has a sleek black tracker module with the “fi” logo right on front. The band is durable, military grade nylon, and will withstand mud, rain, and all the chaos from a golden retriever.

Setup takes less than 10 minutes via the Fi app on your phone. The tracker runs on both LTE and GPS, so you know exactly where she is in real-time, and how she got there. The tracker also keeps daily step counts, so you know whether your daughter got enough exercise on the lazy days.

Good news: The battery lasts up to three months on a single charge, making it unlikely you’ll have to charge it weekly.

I have a friend who last summer lost her dog for four hours. If she had had this collar she would have known her dog never left the block.

The collar band width is 1 inch (it fits most golden retrievers perfectly) and you can use the same module for both collars as the tracker simply snaps in and out.

If your goldie is a runner, this tracker gives you real-time location so you don’t have to worry and your Saturday mornings back.

#7: The Cutest Dog Collar That Comes in Its Own Gift Box

  • Save

i think your golden needs a new collar cause the one that she has on now is probably fine but thats just not fine enough for your highness.

This is a red leather dog collar with gold bone shaped studs, and it comes sitting on top of a little white gift box. It is the kind of collar that feels like jewelry. The burgundy leather is rich and structured and will soften with wear and get better over time.

This dog collar features gold metal hardware including a buckle closure and cute bone charms spaced evenly on the band. Love that the collar is leather-meets-gold to give your dog a little extra shine on their favorite day!

Measure the neck of your dog and then add one size up if you are between two sizes. Leather collars with metal hardware can be snug at first.

A collar like this will stay true to shape through walks in the mud and Tuesday chaos! This sturdy leather keeps it close to the dog so you spend less time adjusting and more time walking.

#8: FluentPet Button Board Setup — The Dog Gadget That Turns Your Pup Into a Conversation Partner

  • Save

Picture this: Your golden is whining and pacing around you, and you have no idea if she wants water, her ball, or if she just wants you to tell her she is bored.

There’s no pets in my pet project, but I do use FluentPet HexTile boards – interlocking puzzle-edge foam tiles in dark charcoal and white – arranged in a U-shaped corridor right on the tile floor. I use the boards to create multiple recordable sound buttons, with colorful illustrated tops. The buttons plug into a small hub near the baseboard.

Now you’ll need the FluentPet Starter Kit that comes with 4 buttons. Of course, you can always expand your pack of buttons! The FluentPet buttons record in your voice (outside, water, play, etc.) so that your dog hears something familiar.

start with 3 max. more than that early on and she just stares at the floor confused. place the board somewhere she already walks past everyday. learning happens without having to force it.

The best part? The buttons give your dog a voice. That means fewer mystery meltdowns and a stronger connection between the two of you.

#9: PetSafe Automatic Feeder & Treat Launcher Combo — The Gadget That Buys You a Guilt-Free Morning

  • Save

You know that moment when your pup is staring at you at 6am with her paw on your face saying “enough of this, lets go now!” This is the product for you.

The PetSafe automatic feeder sits squarely on my hardwood floor as if it belongs there. It’s clean white casing with a slide out drawer tray and small remote, clipped to a teal lanyard, sitting next to it. Next to the automatic feeder is the PetSafe treat launcher, a metal wand with a red foam tip mounted on a white base, my dog’s new best friend.

The feeder stores a dry kibble and dispenses it at scheduled intervals, so your dog gets to eat at the same time every day without you having to lift a finger. The treat launcher dispenses a treat from the remote, which goes wild for his/her treat and leaves you in peace for five minutes.

Quick note: a treat launcher works best if you use small, firm treats. Anything soft or crumbly will jam up the mechanism.

Put the units away from rugs as well as furniture. You don’t want to put crumbs all over your furniture. Make sure to have a low traffic area.

Make sure you keep the feeder plugged in AND have a backup of batteries. Sometimes power cuts happen and a hungry golden retriever at midnight is the last thing you want.

#10: The Robot Vacuum That Actually Feeds Your Dog (Yes, Really)

  • Save

And THEN, I was on a Zoom call and the dog stared at me from across the room and I knew she wanted her afternoon snack, but I literally could not move.

There is nothing more cute than this ROMO Robot Vacuum with built-in treat dispenser!

I opened the top of the lid to see the interior. It has a module for the motor, a module for the filter and a food bowl that sits on top of the circular white base unit. I even thought the warm wood flooring under the whole setup made it look oddly Pinterest-worthy, rather than clinical.

There’s enough soft and crunchy treats (cheese cubes, green grapes, kibble) to fill your bowl up. Schedule and the vacuum will drop it in for you.

Worth it because: one device handles floor cleaning and meal reminders, so it’s one less thing to interrupt your day.

Keep it simple when rotating the treats in the bowl. For my dogs, proteins, veggies, and crunchy snacks. You can also include fruits, but always double-check to make sure they are dog-safe. Coconut Oil for Dogs: Benefits, Uses, and Precautions has a great list of dog-safe fruits to add to your topping rotation.

Clean out the bowl insert after every use. The plastic collar around the rim of the bowl will collect residue.

#11: A Smart Dog Door That Lets You Watch Every Escape Attempt in Real Time

  • Save

Anyone with a dog knows that feeling of panic when you’re sure you closed the back door, but your golden’s halfway out into the yard with muddy paws.

This is the Wayzn Smart Slide Dog Door and it comes with a built-in camera app that will allow you to watch your dog’s little jail break attempts while you are away from home on your phone.

The panel slides into your existing glass sliding door track (no tools, no drilling required), and comes in a clean white frame with a tinted pet flap. It connects to Wi-Fi to the Wayzn app. The app shows a live feed labeled “Outside the Back Door” and has two-way audio, so you can actually talk your dog back inside.

The best part: A blue Wayzn collar tag tells the door which pet to let in, so your golden gets her freedom while the neighbor’s cat stays out.

Set a curfew inside the app. The door locks at night – zero midnight adventures and zero muddy 2am surprises on your Pinterest-worthy entryway rug.

If your golden is scratching at the wrong spot on the door, maybe she is suffering from dog skin allergies home remedies and not just trying to go out.

The Dog Gadget Mistake That’s Costing You Money (And Your Sanity)

We’ve bought a lot of gadgets in our time and one thing I’ve learned is that everyone wants a gold retriever but it’s not always the best buy just because the guys with the dog gave it five stars. This is why you’ve got to get the right review from the right people (in our case… people with gold retrievers).

She’s a mouthy, drooly, energetic golden. A $200 automatic ball launcher that would be so much fun for a beagle would be broke in a week by your girl.

So my pro tip: Always filter reviews by breed size and energy level before buying anything, this means not just “large dog”. A chill Great Dane is different to shop for than a golden retriever!

I bought one of those “heavy duty” treat dispensers and Marigold (my friends dog) destroyed it in four days. FOUR days.

And here’s one for the really lazy – if a gadget has more than 2 steps to clean it, then you’re not going to bother. Then you’re left with an expensive dust collector.

Your Dog’s Gut Health Is Waiting on You

Your golden deserves to feel good every single day, not just when you happen to remember to give her something in her food. Probiotics are one of the easiest things you can do to give her, and the before and after difference in her tummy troubles, her coat and her energy is worth it.

Pick one thing and try it for a few weeks. You’ll know if it’s the right one.

By the way, if you are really dedicated, pairing probiotics with gut-friendly homemade dog biscuits is a good way to further support her health.

Has your girl ever shown signs of an unhappy gut and if so, what did you do about it? 😉
