‘Chupacabra’ Rescue Dog Found in Puerto Rico Finds a Loving Home

Introducing Nina, a lovely stray dog discovered wandering in the lush forests of Puerto Rico. Emily and Shawn, a compassionate couple, stumbled upon her pictures and instantly felt the urge to welcome her into their lives.

With their background in animal rescue, they anticipated some initial adjustment challenges for Nina upon her arrival in bustling New York. And they were right; she came off the plane feeling anxious and frightened. However, after just a few days, they were thrilled to find her beaming at the foot of their bed.

Nina may have a unique appearance, but rest assured, she is in great health. She did undergo entropion surgery and now requires daily eye drops due to her eyelids not closing completely. Aside from that, she’s just like any other dog, full of love and energy.

During Nina’s first visit to the vet, the staff couldn’t help but speculate about her breed. With a playful spirit, Emily and Shawn joked that she might just be a “chupacabra,” the legendary creature found in Mexican folklore.

Some believed she could be a Xoloitzcuintli, but a DNA analysis uncovered that Nina is a delightful blend of various breeds, among them the Doberman Pinscher. At present, she is receiving further examinations at Cornell Veterinary Hospital because of some congenital chromosomal issues, yet she continues to flourish.

Nina has formed a lovely bond with Emily and Shawn’s other dogs, who dote on her like a little one. It’s evident that the whole pack watches over her, and she’s discovered the caring family she always needed.
