A brave retired police dog, Maxx, is receiving accolades for his heroic actions in a recent fire rescue.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, this courageous German Shepherd played a pivotal role in aiding firefighters locate two young children—a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl—who were trapped in their burning house in Longwood, Florida, on Monday night.
Neighbors reported an explosion and quickly called 911 for help. Rushing to the scene, they discovered the children’s mother, Margo Feaser, trapped inside and managed to assist her through a window.
Once freed, her instinct was to return and save her kids. “Her immediate concern was getting back in there to rescue her children,” said Chief Deputy Dennis Lemma of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office on WFTV9 News. “She’s a remarkable individual, a true hero, and we take great pride in her bravery.”
While firefighters worked to enter the home, Margo was held back to ensure her safety. They successfully rescued her husband and two children.
In a heroic turn, the family dog, Maxx, assisted firefighters by guiding them through the thick smoke to locate each child, as noted on a GoFundMe page established for the family.
All four members of the family are currently stable. Their conditions are being monitored, ranging from serious to critical. Maxx is receiving care for smoke inhalation at a nearby veterinary hospital and is said to be improving.
Way to go, Maxx! He hasn’t lost his touch in serving and protecting, proving to be a true lifesaver for his own family. Heroes indeed never fade away!
