Quasimodo’s journey began as a stray wandering the streets, eventually leading him to a southern shelter. His past remains largely a mystery, but one notable fact stands out.
This remarkable German Shepherd Dog lives with Short Spine Syndrome, a condition affecting very few dogs globally. In fact, he’s among just 13 known dogs in the world with this unique genetic anomaly.
Quasi is estimated to be around 1.5 years old and was saved by Secondhand Hounds in Minnesota. He recently joined their rescue team just a few days ago. While he hasn’t gone through a full evaluation yet, the rescue organization describes him as a “friendly, wonderful, and sweet boy.”
This uncommon genetic disorder leads to a deformed spine, potentially leading to complications with internal organs in the future.
Such spinal issues often arise from irresponsible breeding practices. Thankfully, two other pups, Pig and Cuda, share this condition but have been embraced by caring families despite their unique challenges.
On day two with his rescuers, Quasi visits the vet for a health check-up.
During this time, he’s getting an x-ray and appears to be quite at ease throughout the process.
Quasi found a loving temporary home with a foster family that cared for him diligently.
Recognizing his unique needs, Secondhand Hounds decided to make him a permanent member of their organization.

At the age of 12 to 14, Quasi continues to embrace life enthusiastically. He even has his own Facebook page, aptly named Quasi the Great.
