A once frightened bull terrier, tied to a fence during Hurricane Milton, is now thriving and full of joy in his foster home.
The Florida Highway Patrol found this brave pup standing in floodwaters just before the storm made landfall.
Named Tallahassee Trooper, he was rescued by a vigilant officer who noticed the dog struggling to break free.
Initially, the terrified pup barked and growled, but soon understood the trooper was there to save him.
With care and compassion, the officer secured Trooper in his patrol car and rushed him to a veterinarian for a thorough check-up.
After being cleared for injuries, Trooper was taken to the Leon County Humane Society.
They received a late-night call to pick up this deserving dog, setting the stage for his happy new beginning.

At 9 PM, the Dog Coordinator received a call from the Governor’s office. She promptly left home to retrieve him from Emergency Management Services.
They conducted a microchip scan at the Hillsborough Pet Resource Center, discovering he had none. Despite rumors suggesting he was returned to an unfeeling owner, there was no truth to that claim.
Subsequently, Trooper was taken to Tallahassee to be placed with a foster family.
The Leon County Humane Society expressed their dismay, stating, “Abandoning this dog in such a manner was utterly unacceptable. It not only jeopardized his life but also posed risks to others on a crowded evacuation route. It was a cruel and thoughtless act, showing disregard for both the dog and those managing the impending storm.”
“It’s unimaginable what circumstances led to him being left tied to that pole with no hope,” they reflected. “Just thinking about the fear he must have felt as cars sped past, the water climbing to his belly, and the storm closing in is heartbreaking.”
“For those following his journey, we want to provide some reassurance that he is now safe and sound. We’ve been deeply concerned about him since his story first came to light. We also want to emphasize that we take the issue of animal abandonment very seriously. We will be monitoring his case closely and using this experience for educational purposes.”
The organization shared a lovely photo of Trooper, beaming with joy. Despite the turmoil and confusion surrounding his rescue, they stated, “Ultimately, what matters most is that he’s safe. Everything else can wait.”
Currently, Trooper isn’t available for adoption due to ongoing emergency relief efforts. The organization kindly requests that inquiries be held off as they focus on countless other pets in need following the disaster.
Trooper is feeling quite stressed and is in the process of decompressing. It’s important to understand that dogs who have faced abandonment often take time to recover. Typically, they require a few days to feel secure, weeks to come out of their shells, and months to establish a routine.

He will remain in foster care until we are confident he is ready for the next chapter in his life, ensuring a bright and gentle future awaits him.
