Garbage Truck Driver Finds Tiny Dog in Trash and Adopts Him

For the last seven years, Gabriel Wiley has been navigating the streets of Houston, Texas, in his garbage truck. In June, a routine day took an unexpected turn, leading to an unforgettable rescue.

After clearing an eight-foot dumpster, Gabriel looked into the hopper and was shocked by what he found. A small dog was precariously perched on the heap of trash.

It was clear that this poor pup hadn’t simply jumped in; someone had discarded him. His coat was severely matted, yet he still showed a spark of determination to survive.

Without hesitation, Gabriel reached out to the Houston SPCA, understanding the urgent need for the dog’s medical attention. As the rescuers prepared to leave, Gabriel made a heartfelt declaration: “I want him.”

When he called his wife to share the story, her reply was straightforward and warm: “Bring him home.”

Several weeks later, after receiving care and vaccinations from the Houston SPCA, Gabriel welcomed the brave little survivor into his home. They chose the name Hopper, a perfect nod to the place where his new life unfolded. Nowadays, Hopper is cherished by Gabriel’s grandchildren, but if you were to inquire about his favorite human, there’s no doubt who that is…his rescuer.
