My golden retriever, Koda, destroyed my first “nice” couch in about three weeks flat. There was drool on the armrest, fur in every crevice, and one stain I’d rather not think about.

Both of these pieces hang in the same white carved resin frames (the kind that look super old, and cost me probably $40 at HomeGoods). The larger one hangs slightly to the left of center, the smaller one, a little more to the right (it’s intentional but not stiff).
I would hang my largest picture at 57 inches from center of the picture to the floor – which is the gallery standard. Then I would hang one of the smaller pictures about 8-10 inches to the right of the larger picture and slightly lower.
The Figurative Art Prints
Both prints have a painted woman in green and pink. It’s flat and fresh, and just screams retro party girl! The colors also tie into the color scheme of the sofa and the sage walls.

But fair warning: Light colored rugs and golden retrievers are sworn enemies. If you go that route make sure you have a bottle of the carpet cleaner made for dog messes close at hand. I learned that the hard way when my cousin’s lab was here for a weekend and basically destroyed her jute rug.

You know that moment when you FINALLY sit down after a long day and your golden retriever has already launched herself on the couch and is taking up THREE QUARTERS of the sectional?
Yeah. That’s this room’s whole energy.
If I had my choice of living rooms to sit in, this would be it. Because this one gives off warm, moody, “I have my life together” vibes. Cream boucle-style sectional, layered curtains in taupe and sheer white, and the dual ring pendant lights make it look like a candlelit dinner for two (or, you know, you and your dog).
The Sectional
The star of the show is this large, L-shaped cream fabric sectional with deep cushions and chaise extension. My cousin has one and I must admit I was a little jealous when I sat in it. The fabric looks like a couch built for real life with pets – the kind that are soft but structured enough to not get squished after 400 naps from 400 golden retrievers.
The Coffee Table Set
Two round marble-top tables with matte black metal legs. One bigger one and one smaller one. The bigger one can be used as coffee table or the smaller one can be used as a foot rest. These two tables nest together so one fits perfectly on top of the other. I thought this was a cute way to nest them instead of leaving them apart. (By the way, having round tables help with the corners since I sometimes have a dog running through the living room at 11pm for no reason at all).
The Lighting
The double-hoop black pendant chandelier with LED rings was doing the work of adding drama without overpowering the softer neutrals. It also paired nicely with the track lighting on the ceiling rail for more adjustable light. I really love the warm, non-cool white bulbs…so much warmer!
The Rug
A rug is everything, and this time it’s a gray-brown abstract area rug. The distressed pattern is a genius way to hide muddy paw prints between vacuums. I learned that one the hard way with a cream rug.
One tip worth stealing: Pull your sectional back a few inches from the wall (even 4-6 inches) so that your dog can sneak her toys back there, or you can just make the room look more intentional, like you did it that way.

This big golden retriever has already claimed the left chaise. You know it and I know it. Same energy.
I saw this sectional at a few of my cousins last winter and her dog, Maple, made herself right at home and never got off of it. I can’t blame Maple one bit.
This light gray ribbed fabric sectional is the kind of couch that looks like someone wrapped a cloud in corduroy. The chunky vertical channel tufting runs across every cushion, as well as the chaise and armrests. The color is a soft silver-gray and hides a lot more than you might expect.

What is it about ribbed fabrics that make them so much less annoying when it comes to pet hair? I guess the grooves in the material give the pet hair somewhere to fall through instead of sticking flat to the fabric. Anyway, run a rubber glove over it and all the hair will come right off.

That moment where you finally get the couch you’ve been saving up for, and within literally twenty minutes your golden has already claimed the entire left corner of the couch and there is a big drool patch?
Yeah. Been there.
